About Balenciaga
Balenciaga is a luxury fashion house founded in 1919 by renowned Spanish fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. The company was established in San Sebastian, Spain. However, it was later sold to French luxury group Kering and subsequently moved its headquarters to Paris, France.
The fashion house has experienced changing fortunes throughout its 100+ years’ existence. The company closed shop in 1972 due to dwindling sales. But thanks to renewed interest in its exquisite apparel, the fashion giant reopened in 1986, albeit under new ownership.
Balenciaga Font
The brand has become synonymous with avant-garde and unconventional fashion, such as Cristóbal’s sack dress and cocoon coat; Nicolas Ghesquière’s Motorcycle Lariat bag; and Demna Gvasalia’s luxurious rainbow-striped nod to Thailand’s “Sampeng bags.”
Nowadays, Balenciaga is well-known for streetwear-inspired designs and oversized silhouettes – an ironic twist compared to their simple logo.
Under Gvasalia’s direction, the company (as well as the logo) changed to reflect more modern, bolder principles. From their classic monogram logo in 1917, Balenciaga redesigned its emblem to appear narrower and taller. To attain this look, the font Utah Condensed Bold had to employed.
This typeface is a condensed bold version in a sans-serif font family known as Utah. The font’s designer is largely unknown. Utah contains up to 260 glyphs and 2048 units per EM. The typeface has a maximum advanced width of 2048 and a maximum advance height of 2451.
The fonts also support numerous languages, ranging from English, Spanish, and German to Afrikaans, Galician, Esperanto, to mention but a few.
