FREE Nirvana Fonts for the Generation X and Beyond
Nirvana is an American rock band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987 with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl as principal members. Their success has been recognized as a springboard to the rise of Alternative Rock, and has also been one of the cultural symbols of Generation X.
Contrasts between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses have been Nirvana’s signature sound that went along with their punk aesthetics. Pop melodies, the occasional dash of noise, and themes of abjection and social alienation made them hugely popular given the social weather of the times.
The Phenomenon
Their first entry into mainstream music scene was through Smells Like Teen Spirit – part of their 1991 album, Nevermind. Nirvana disbanded following Cobain’s suicide in 1994, and succeeding releases were supervised by the remaining members and Kurt’s wife, Courtney Love. The 1994 posthumous live album MTV Unplugged in New York won a 1996 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.
