When it came out in 1982, Blade Runner was not a success. But thanks to its intriguing story and talented cast members, it eventually became a cult classic, paving the way for more sci-fi films such as Total Recall and Minority Report.
Based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel, ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’, it also has a 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
The 1982 Blade Runner film was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer. It is set in a dystopian future in Los Angeles, in the year 2019, where bioengineered humanoids called ‘replicants’ exist. Former policeman Rick Deckard (Ford) is a ‘blade runner’, whose job is to ‘retire’ replicants. He is tasked to track and retire six rogue replicants that were created by Eldon Tyrell.
