Growing up, many of us believed that there are monsters under our beds or inside our closets. Our parents spent many nights assuring us that they are not real, or that they won’t do us any harm. In Pixar’s Monsters Inc. (2001), these monsters need to scare kids in order to power their world.

Produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, Monsters Inc. is a computer-animated comedy movie. Starring the voices of John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, James Coburn, and Jennifer Tilly, it features the characters of James P. ‘Sulley’ Sullivan and Mike Wazowski. Monsters scare kids in the human world, harvest their screams, and the screams generate electricity in the monster world.
The story follows Sulley and Mike as they struggle to hide a human girl they nicknamed, Boo. It is later revealed that Boo was able to get inside the Monsters Inc. factory because the company’s CEO, Henry J. Waternoose III, wanted to kidnap human children. When Boo was returned to the human world, Sulley becomes heartbroken. But he and Mike eventually restart the company, using children’s laughter as a substitute for screams.
