Sandbox video games have been around for quite some time, but very few in the gaming community have appreciated it. Imagination is your only limit in such titles. Of course, that means you have to think of a way of how to enjoy the game. Those who prefer a linear approach may not find that to their liking.
Minecraft is a PC sandbox title created by Markus ‘Notch’ Persson using Jan in 2009. Its official release came two years after, with Jens Bergensten taking over development.
You get to explore a virtually limitless terrain where raw materials are discovered and used to create things from tools to structures. There is what can be considered an endpoint as you explore further in this vast world you’re given, where completing the content will allow your keep what you’ve made and play the game endlessly.
The freestyle nature of the game received a lot of recognition – and Minecraft was inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2020.
