No 80s or 90s childhood is complete without having played with or watched the Transformers. What began as a toyline in 1984 has since spawned five high-grossing films from Hollywood. Apart from that, the media franchise also includes animation, comic books, video games, and of course, toys.

The Transformers Franchise

Fresh from their success with the G.I. Joe line, American toy company Hasbro partnered with Japanese toy company Takara Tomy to create the Transformers.

The originally unnamed Diaclone mecha from Takara were given a rich backstory: that of the brave Optimus Prime, and the evil Megatron. Optimus Prime would be the leader of the Autobots, while Megatron would head the Decepticons. Generation 1 would come to mean the storyline and toys that first appeared from 1984 to 1993.

What gave the franchise new fans were the set of films that were produced from 2007 to 2017, with a spin off story from one of its most lovable characters, Bumblebee (2018). The five films were directed by Michael Bay.
