This American adult animated science fiction sitcom series was made by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim – Cartoon Network’s nighttime programming block. The series started as a parody film of Back to the Future for the short film festival Channel 101.
The show revolved around the adventures of the Smith household members. Rick Sanchez is an eccentric and alcoholic scientist who had issues dealing with many of life’s conventions such as school, marriage, love, and family. He usually dragged his kind-hearted but easily-distressed grandson, Morty Smith.
They are sometimes accompanied in their exploits by Summer, Morty’s older sister. The household is often handled by the kids’ mother, Beth and her husband, Jerry. The issue of Rick’s influence over the Smith family is a frequent subject of disagreement.
Rick and Morty Reception
Different incarnations of the characters are seen during Rick and Co.’s inter-dimensional adventures. Co-creator Dan Harmon described the series as a cross between Matt Groening’s The Simpsons, for its family drama, and Futurama for its science fiction aspect.
Rick and Morty has received universal acclaim, with review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes rating the entire series an average of 94 percent. Most reviewers regarded the show having an original style of humor, and that digging deeper into the show reveals more than originally intended.
In fact, the show has become so beloved and popular, it spawned crazy fan theories. And some theories are crazier than others. One states that Morty is Rick’s clone after all. Another says that the reason Rick is so smart is because he keeps drinking distilled super tree seeds.
