Here Goes The Cuphead Font! You’re Up!
Whether you’re a graphic designer or font collector, the chances are that you’re always looking for the coolest typefaces to add to your projects. And you need to, because choosing the wrong font can deal a massive blow to otherwise charming designs.
In this post, we introduce a playful typeface that resembles the one used on the Cuphead logo. Hopefully, by the time you’re done going through the font’s specifications, you’ll have decided on whether to shortlist it for your design toolkit.
About Cuphead
Cuphead is a run-and-gun video game developed and published by Studio MDHR. The game was directed by brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer and produced by Marjia Moldenhauer and Ryan Moldenhauer.
It tells the story of a titular Cuphead who’s sent on a daring quest by the Devil to repossess the souls of runaway debtors as part of his penalty for losing a game at the Devil’s casino.
The Cuphead is essentially an anthropomorphic cup. Players take control of the character and his equally-animated twin brother Mugman to fight their way up the levels. The mission is to overcome the bosses in a bid to repay the Devil his dues.
Cuphead was originally released on September 29, 2017 to Windows and Xbox One devices. It was then released on October 19, 2018 to macOS, later on April 18, 2019 to Nintendo Switch, and eventually on July 28, 2020 to PlayStation 4.
Cuphead Logo
The Cuphead’s logo immediately stands out for its cartoonish characters and elements. The logo features the inscription “Cuphead Don’t Deal With The Devil.”
The words are rendered in the UPPERCASE and set in two levels, with the ‘CUPHEAD’ part appearing above the rest of the inscription. The word ‘CUPHEAD’ is executed in solid white with dark outlines whereas the ‘DON’T DEAL WITH THE DEVIL’ portion is in black.
Beneath the inscriptions are the two main protagonists in Cuphead, namely Cuphead and his twin brother Mugman. The characters are depicted as cartoonish figures whose heads feature a wide cup with milk inside and a protruding straw.
The Cuphead logotype appears in a combination of red, white, and black letters whereas his twin brother Mugman is in a blue, white, and black color palette. All the elements of the Cuphead logo are set in a yellow frame.
The Cuphead Font
Cuphead uses a unique typeface for its logo. The font must have been created exclusively for the video game. However, there are quite a few typefaces that look a lot like the one used on Cuphead’s logos and posters. One such font is Alegreya Sans SC Bold.
About Alegreya Sans SC Bold
Alegreya Sans SC Bold is an SC bold variant of Alegreya Sans, a typeface created by renowned Argentine graphic and type designer Juan Pablo del Peral for Huerta Tipográfica. The font looks very similar to the one used on Cuphead’s logos.
Note that Alegreya Sans SC Bold only resembles the font used for the ‘CUPHEAD’ inscription and not the ‘DON’T DEAL WITH THE DEVIL’ bit.
Alegreya Sans Font Family
Alegreya Sans is a rather huge typeface family that comes in several weights and styles.
Here are other popular Alegreya Sans fonts besides the SC bold version that resembles the original font used on Cuphead’s logo: Alegreya Sans Regular, Alegreya Sans Bold, Alegreya Sans Black, Alegreya Sans Light Italic, Alegreya Sans SC Thin, and Alegreya Sans SC Extra-Bold. These are just several of the available styles.
Alegreya Sans SC Bold Applications
All Alegreya Sans fonts are chic and elegant. These typefaces will help bring out the best in your graphic designs, despite the weight or style you go for.
However, Alegreya Sans fonts would probably be more suitable for cartoonish designs. Consider these typefaces when creating projects with humor as the underlying theme. These range from comic strips to comedy films, movies, and video games.
Alegreya Sans’ cartoonish appearance gives it a less casual feel even when executed in the UPPERCASE. As such, you could use the font when creating certain unofficial designs. Examples include embroidery, t-shirt printing, and jewelry engraving.
There’s a long list of other design projects on which you could use Alegreya Sans SC. These include flyers, posters, banners, and billboards.
Another cool thing to love about Alegreya Sans fonts is their compatibility with both physical and digital designs. The fonts’ digital compatibility makes them a top recommendation for use on blogs, social media, and e-commerce.
