Interesting History Behind Campbell Soup Logo and Font

Campbell Soup Company, more popularly known as Campbell’s, is an American company founded in 1869 by Joseph A. Campbell, which deals in processed food and snack.

Campbell’s is best known for its flagship canned soup products. The company produces several types of processed food products, including canned meals, snacks, beverages, and baked foods.

Campbell’s has grown into one of America’s largest processed food suppliers. That’s largely due to mergers and acquisitions. The company generated USD 8.691 billion worth of revenue in 2020, 1.628 billion of which was net income.

Campbell’s logo features the calligraphic lettering “Campbell’s” set in lowercase. The company’s lettering appears on a red rectangle with a golden border. However, this logo has witnessed a number of upgrades over the years.

The original Campbell’s logo colors were orange and blue. The company used this logo for barely a year before changing the color scheme to red and white.

Another notable feature of Campbell’s original logo design was the center medallion. The medallion appeared in several versions from 1898 to 1900.

It was eventually modelled after a medal that the company received during the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. The medal has been part of Campbell’s logo since then, serving as a longstanding mark of the company’s excellence in service delivery.

But color scheme isn’t the only aspect of Campbell’s logo design that has changed over the years. The company has also continually experimented with numerous fonts. Most of the typefaces Campbell’s has used on its logo were tailor-made for the company. And the same appears true for the font that the company currently uses.

However, Campbell’s logo font seems nearly similar to a font known as Quincho Script by Måns Grebäck. Not much is known about this font. But it’s a great design to consider using on your posters, flyers, brochures, store signage, etc. You can even apply the font on digital design projects, including as your primary social media, blog, or e-commerce font.

Besides Quincho Script, the original font appearing on Campbell’s logo also seems very similar to Café Aroma. Café Aroma is a work of designer by the name Bob Alonso. And just like Quincho Script, this lesser-known typeface can enhance the visual appeal of your design projects remarkably.
